Do I pay again for a second child?

Master Books is priced per grade level, so a second child in a different grade is a second purchase. Non-consumable parts are usually reusable between siblings; workbooks and consumables are not.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Master Books?

Yes. The Good and the Beautiful, Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool, and MagicSchool cover the same subject at a lower price. The trade-offs are usually in teacher prep time and how much is scripted for you.
