About
What it is
ABCmouse is a gamified comprehensive early-learning platform for ages 2-8, published by Age of Learning. The platform covers reading, math, science, art, music, basic coding, social studies, and health across more than 13,000 activities. The structure offers two paths: a step-by-step Learning Path that walks students through a sequenced curriculum, and 'My World,' a free-exploration environment where children choose activities based on interest.
Age of Learning also produces sister brands Adventure Academy (for older children, generally 8-13) and ReadingIQ (a digital library). The platform runs on web, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and TV apps for Apple TV, Roku, and Google Play TV.
Monthly pricing is $14.99. Annual plans run approximately $45 for the first year as a promo, renewing at around $59.99. Multiple promotional codes are typically active offering 50-70% off the first year. A basic free tier exists but has limited functionality. ABCmouse runs an affiliate program through CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction), Sovrn, and Cuelinks with reported commission rates in the 9-27% range; cookie duration is not publicly disclosed on official pages.
ABCmouse is secular. Cathy Duffy is positive overall, calling it 'very attractive' with 'amazing amount of educational learning and entertainment for young children.' The main caveats are that the cartoon-character pull is strong — children tend to want extended screen time — which is why the platform includes a built-in timer. Reddit r/homeschool consensus rates ABCmouse as a solid PreK-K supplement that gets thin by 1st or 2nd grade compared to focused curricula. Common Sense Media is positive. Some parents report cancellation friction after the trial period.
ABCmouse works best for ages 2-6, busy parents wanting an engaging digital learning playground, and PreK introduction to reading and math. For primary K-2 reading instruction, dedicated programs like All About Reading or Reading Eggs provide stronger phonics. By 2nd grade, families typically transition to more focused, academic-grade programs.
