About
What it is
Math-U-See is a mastery-based math curriculum that uses physical manipulatives — the signature Integer Blocks — alongside clear, calm video instruction from creator Steve Demme. Each level focuses on one major mathematical concept until the student achieves mastery before moving on.
The levels are named rather than numbered: Primer introduces the basics, then Alpha covers addition, Beta covers subtraction, Gamma covers multiplication, Delta covers division, Epsilon covers fractions, and Zeta covers decimals and percentages. The sequence continues through Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
A typical lesson follows a consistent pattern: parent and student watch Steve Demme's video lesson (about 5 minutes of clear, patient instruction), then practice the concept with the Integer Blocks, and finally complete worksheet pages (20-30 minutes). The blocks make abstract math concepts concrete and visible — students can literally see why 3 × 4 = 12 by building it.
The Universal Set for each level ($135) includes the Instruction Manual, streaming video access, Student Workbook, and Test Booklet. The Integer Block Kit ($80) is a one-time purchase that covers Primer through Pre-Algebra. First-year total cost is approximately $215, dropping to $135 per level for subsequent years.
Math-U-See is especially effective for kinesthetic and visual learners, math-anxious children, and students who struggled with other programs. The manipulatives are reusable across siblings and years, making it economical for multi-child families.
Note that Demme Learning does not offer an affiliate program — Math-U-See is sold through the publisher and through retailers like Rainbow Resource Center and Christianbook.

Common questions
Frequently asked
What grade levels does Math-U-See cover?
Math-U-See covers Primer (roughly kindergarten) through Calculus. The program uses named levels: Primer, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
Do I need to buy the blocks?
The Integer Block Kit ($80) is a one-time purchase required for Primer through Pre-Algebra. The blocks are the core manipulative that makes the program work — they're not optional. The kit is reusable across all levels and siblings.
Is Math-U-See good for dyslexia or learning differences?
Yes. The multi-sensory approach (visual blocks + auditory video + kinesthetic manipulation) makes Math-U-See particularly effective for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and other learning differences.
