About
What it is
Oak Meadow is a Waldorf-inspired secular curriculum that has been serving homeschool families since 1975. The program emphasizes creativity, nature connection, artistic expression, and holistic child development — educating the whole child rather than focusing narrowly on academic benchmarks.
The curriculum covers kindergarten through 12th grade with coursebooks that integrate academic content with hands-on projects, nature study, artistic activities, and creative writing. Early elementary lessons lean heavily into storytelling, watercolor painting, beeswax modeling, and outdoor exploration. Upper grades maintain the creative emphasis while increasing academic rigor, particularly in the high school program.
Oak Meadow offers two tracks. The independent homeschool option provides coursebooks and materials for parents to teach at home, priced at roughly $120-$500 per year depending on grade level and materials selected. The accredited distance-learning school option pairs the curriculum with a dedicated teacher who reviews student work, provides feedback, and issues official transcripts and grades — this track runs $1,500-$2,500 per year and is one of the few accredited Waldorf-aligned options available.
The curriculum is intentionally secular and suitable for families of any worldview. Content focuses on universal human values, cultural diversity, and environmental stewardship without religious framing.
Oak Meadow is strongest for creative and kinesthetic learners who wilt under worksheet-heavy traditional programs. The artistic and nature-based activities give these students room to thrive. However, families seeking traditional drill-based academics, heavy standardized test preparation, or structured daily lesson plans will find Oak Meadow too open-ended. The pacing is gentle, and the emphasis is on depth and connection rather than breadth and coverage.
