Power Homeschool — International Academy of Science

About

What it is

Power Homeschool is the parent-led, unaccredited version of the Acellus video curriculum. The video content is identical to what Acellus Academy uses, but Power Homeschool strips the enrollment, accreditation, teacher support, transcripts, and diploma. Parents serve as the teacher, and the program is positioned as a subscription for self-directed homeschool families who want Acellus content without the cost of accredited enrollment.

Coverage spans PreK through 12 across language arts, math, science, social studies, foreign language, CTE, ESL, and STEM/Technology — hundreds of individual courses. The platform runs on web, iOS, and Android.

Pricing as of March 2026 is $99 per month without scholarship, $79 per month with scholarship. This is the program's most significant current controversy: prior pricing was approximately $31 per month, and the jump to $99 per month happened mid-2025 with relatively little advance notice. Reddit threads from August and September 2025 document widespread frustration from multi-child families who saw their subscription cost more than triple. There is no public affiliate program.

Power Homeschool inherits all the content concerns flagged in Acellus reviews. The 2020 Hawaii Department of Education findings about content bias, the strong-evolutionary biology presentation, and the limited writing instruction all apply equally to Power Homeschool because the video library is the same. Cathy Duffy covers Power Homeschool under the same listing as Acellus.

Trustpilot reviews remain positive on the self-paced video format and content engagement. Reddit critiques include glitches, the 2025 price changes, no human to ask when stuck, and content that occasionally feels dated. There is no accredited diploma or transcript with Power Homeschool — families needing those credentials must use Acellus Academy instead.

Power Homeschool works best for independent, self-directed learners and families who want Acellus content at a lower price point than the full accredited school. It is not appropriate for families needing diplomas or transcripts, parents wanting human teacher support, young-earth creationist families (biology), or families burned by the 2025 price hike who want long-term pricing stability.

Common questions

Frequently asked

What happened with the 2025 price increase?

Power Homeschool raised pricing from approximately $31/mo to $99/mo in mid-2025 with limited advance notice. Reddit threads from August and September 2025 document widespread frustration, especially from multi-child families. Current pricing is $99/mo without scholarship, $79/mo with scholarship.

What is the difference between Power Homeschool and Acellus Academy?

Identical video content. Acellus Academy ($2,000-$4,500/yr) adds enrollment, accredited diploma, transcripts, and teacher support. Power Homeschool ($99/mo) is the parent-led version without those services. Families needing a diploma should use Acellus Academy.

Does Power Homeschool provide a transcript?

No. Power Homeschool is parent-administered and does not issue transcripts or a diploma. Families needing accredited records must use Acellus Academy or compile their own transcripts.

What about the 2020 Acellus content controversy?

The 2020 Hawaii Department of Education findings about Acellus content (racial bias, sexism, religious favoritism, inappropriate content) apply to Power Homeschool because the video library is the same. Cathy Duffy's 2026 review still warns families to investigate before subscribing.
