Memoria Press — Memoria Press

About

What it is

Memoria Press is a classical Christian curriculum built on the conviction that Latin, logic, and the liberal arts form the foundation of a rigorous education. Founded by Martin Cothran and Cheryl Lowe, the program provides meticulously organized materials from Junior Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Latin sits at the center of the Memoria Press approach. The First Form Latin series and its successors are among the most widely used Latin programs in classical homeschooling. But the curriculum extends well beyond Latin — complete grade-level packages include language arts, history, science, geography, Bible, and enrichment subjects, all taught through a classical lens of memorization, recitation, and mastery.

Complete packages range from approximately $235 for preschool to $500-$700 for middle school and $914 for 9th grade. Individual courses are available for families who only need specific subjects. Christianbook often carries Memoria Press materials at 10-30% below publisher pricing.

Memoria Academy provides optional online classes with live or recorded instruction for families who want teacher-led support. This is especially valuable for upper-level Latin, logic, and rhetoric courses where parents may not feel equipped to teach.

The curriculum is intensely organized. Lesson plans are detailed, scope and sequence documents are thorough, and the packaging makes it clear what to teach when. Parents who want a system where every piece fits together precisely will appreciate this level of structure.

Memoria Press is explicitly Christian and teaches from a Western civilization perspective with classical Great Books at the upper levels. The program is academically demanding — it expects real intellectual effort from students and does not apologize for rigor. Creative, nature-based, or relaxed homeschool families will find the approach too structured. But for families committed to classical education and willing to invest the effort, Memoria Press produces deeply educated students.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Does my child have to learn Latin?

Latin is central to the Memoria Press philosophy, but individual subject courses can be purchased separately. However, the curriculum is designed with Latin as a keystone — the publisher strongly recommends it for the full classical benefit.

How much does Memoria Press cost per year?

Complete packages range from $235 for preschool to $500-$700 for middle school and $914 for 9th grade. Christianbook often offers 10-30% discounts. Individual courses can be purchased separately for less.

Is Memoria Press too rigid?

Memoria Press is intentionally structured and academically demanding. Families who thrive with clear organization and detailed lesson plans will appreciate the system. Families who prefer flexibility, creativity-first approaches, or gentle pacing may find it too prescriptive.

What is Memoria Academy?

Memoria Academy offers online classes with live or recorded instruction taught by experienced teachers. It is especially useful for upper-level Latin, logic, and rhetoric courses where parents may not feel confident teaching.
