Activity Parsing
How Kit's AI parses your natural language into structured activities.
Last updated March 20, 2026
Kit uses AI to understand your natural language and convert it into structured activities. Here's how it works.
How Parsing Works
When you describe an activity, Kit extracts:
- Title - What you learned or did
- Subject - Matched to your existing subjects
- Duration - Start time, end time, or total time
- Students - Who participated
- Description - Any additional details
Example
You type:
"We read Chapter 5 of Charlotte's Web together from 2-3pm"
Kit creates:
- Title: Read Chapter 5 of Charlotte's Web
- Subject: Reading (or Language Arts)
- Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
- Students: All students
- Duration: 1 hour
Tips for Better Parsing
Be Clear About Time
Kit understands many formats:
- "from 9am to 10am"
- "for 45 minutes"
- "about an hour"
- "9-10:30"
Mention Subjects
If you have subjects set up, Kit will match them:
- "Math practice" → matches your Math subject
- "Science experiment" → matches Science
- "Piano lesson" → matches Music or Piano
Specify Students
If not all students participated:
- "Sarah did her math worksheet"
- "Just the older kids for history"
