Student Access

Premium feature

Give each child a PIN-protected link to see their own schedule and check off finished work.

Last updated September 01, 2026

Student access gives a child their own view of their schoolwork — today's activities, the week ahead, and their progress — without giving them access to your account. They open a private link, enter a PIN you chose, and see only their own schedule. If you allow it, they can also tick off work as they finish it.

Student access is part of a paid plan. It isn't available during the free trial, and a student's link stops working if your subscription lapses.

Turning it on

  1. Go to Students and open the student's page
  2. Find the Student access card
  3. Choose a 4-digit PIN
  4. Click Turn on student access

You'll get a private link for that student. Copy it and open it on their device — a tablet, a shared family computer, or a phone browser. Have them bookmark it or add it to the home screen; the link plus the PIN is how they get in every time. The card shows when the link was last opened, so you can tell whether they're using it.

Each student gets their own separate link and PIN.

What your student sees

  • Today's schedule — their activities for the day, organized by subject
  • This week — a week-at-a-glance view
  • Their progress — how they're tracking toward their yearly goals, if you've set goals for them

That's all. They can't see siblings' schedules, your reports, account settings, or anything else.

Checking off work

By default, students can tap an activity to mark it done. A checkoff is a simple "I finished this" flag for the two of you — it doesn't change your hour totals, attendance days, or any compliance reports. You stay in control of the official record; logging hours works exactly as before.

If you'd rather they just view their schedule, click Turn off checking work off on the Student access card.

Managing access

From the Student access card on the student's page you can:

  • Change the PIN — any device already signed in will need the new PIN
  • Pause access — temporarily disable the link without deleting anything; resume it later
  • Create a new link — if a link was shared too widely, generate a fresh one; the old link stops working immediately
  • Turn off student access — remove the link and PIN entirely

Entering the wrong PIN 5 times locks the link for 15 minutes.

Privacy

Student access is built so that using it collects nothing about your child:

  • Your child never creates an account and is never asked for their name, email address, phone number, or any other contact information.
  • The only records their use creates are a timestamp when they mark work as done, a "last opened" timestamp, and a count of wrong PIN entries used solely to lock the link after repeated misses. All of it is visible only to you.
  • Portal pages carry no analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind, and they're blocked from search engines.

The same spirit applies to your own data across Homeschool Fox: it belongs to you and we never sell it. We keep it only while your account is active — deleting a student permanently removes their records, and you can delete your whole account (students, activities, transcripts, everything) at any time from Settings → Account. The full details, including deletion timelines, are in our privacy policy.

Good to know

  • Student access works in any web browser. In the Homeschool Fox mobile apps, student links redirect to the parent sign-in screen — hand your student a browser instead.
  • Student goals — the progress your student sees comes from the goals you set here.
  • Sharing your account — for inviting a co-parent with real account access, use account sharing instead.
